1930 map of the Americas with illustrations of economic activity and tourist attractions, produced by Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company to show off the Pan-American Highway. I was disappointed to note that no musical activity was deemed worthy of illustration, but I suppose 1930 was a little early for mongrel music like jazz, the tango, calypso, etc. to be as respectable as “Old Plantations,” “Columbus’ First Landing,” and “Indians.”
