Q:What was the best meal you ate during this year's EMP conference?
They were all great!
But on the principle that the best meal is the one that you’re hungriest for, I’d have to split it between the first meal I ate (both in New York, and of the day), dinner at a restaurant called The Place in the East Village with the ladies of therichgirlsareweeping, where I had a superbly gritty shepherd’s pie and a ridiculously smooth crème brûlée; and the Sunday-noon meal, on which I ditched everyone else on purpose, intending to visit a record store we’d seen the previous day, but of course it was closed on Sunday — after a quick walk around the neighborhood, almost but not quite getting lost, I ended up getting a couple of hot dogs and a piña colada at the Papaya Dog on the corner of Washington Square, which I ate standing up at a table and then forced myself to leave because they were so good I wanted five more.
And now you know!

Yet another reason to regret not going this year. Sigh.

Ooh, I had a little feast of my own at Papaya Dog while there for New Year’s. I completely understand the need to force yourself out.
