Could there ever be a another song that cements a person’s fandom of Woody Allen as thoroughly as “I Will Follow You Into the Dark”?
Does basing an entire song on Allen’s Interiors count?
Then yes. Yes, there could be, particularly considering the specifically Christian notions of heaven and hell and direct references to Catholic school in “I Will Follow You Into the Dark.” Allen didn’t invent agnosticism or death obsessions, and, as far as I can tell, his perspectives on each don’t resemble Gibbard’s in any meaningful way (as far as this song is concerned, at least).
Also maybe liking the kind of music Woody Allen likes might help. Old-school jazz isn’t just sonic wallpaper. (Come to think of it, not even wallpaper is just wallpaper, in the sense of meaningless background noise.)
