For reference, here is how I will continue to use two particular lexical items, even though the tide has long since shifted against these uses:
Disinterested to mean impartial, not uninterested.
Enormity to mean atrocity, not enormousness.

Nazis never occupied North America, but it’s still in poor taste to wear a swastika here. (Okay, sorry, Godwin’s law — and a more accurate comparison would be to a scenario where the Nazis won, and within a generation or two were fetishizing and dressing up in the misunderstood remnants of Jewish culture.)
